APPLICATION: |
Surface Preparation |
- Thoroughly clean pulley surfaces prior to primer application. Remove protective oils, cutting oils and greases by solvent degreasing or alkaline cleaning. Remove rust, scale or oxide coatings by suitable chemical or mechanical cleaning methods.
- Mechanical Cleaning Grit blasting is the preferred and most widely used method of mechanical cleaning. Ensure blasting media is not contaminated with oil, grease etc as this may adversely affect adhesion.
Grinding can also be used for metal surface preparation where sand blasting is not available.
- Handle clean metal surfaces with clean gloves to avoid contamination with oils from the skin.
|
Mixing |
- Thoroughly stir EMP 2205 primer before use, and agitate sufficiently during use to keep dispersed solids uniformly suspended.
|
Applying |
- Apply EMP 2205 by brush, or roll coat to give a uniform coating – avoid runs, tears or pooling of the primer as the thicker primer coating in these areas reduces adhesion. Normally a single coat of EMP 2205 is sufficient – coating must be consistent grey finish with no appearance of the pulley shell visible through the coating.
- Apply EMP 2205 to pulley surface within one-half hour after blasting.
|
Drying/Curing |
- Thoroughly dry the pulley shell that has been coated with EMP 2205 before applying the covercoat adhesive. Overnight drying is recommended for maximum adhesion.
|
Clean Up |
- Clean up using MEK solvent.
